Let it dry

Write shitty first drafts.

Write just well enough that when you read it back, you can clearly make out what you intended to say.

Add examples and details so the idea is vivid. Don’t save up on nuances as they will be the bricks of the narrative. As they say, the details are where the devil resides.

Some schemes may strike you late in the night, when you don’t want to still be working. But such is the nature of the practice; you write when it comes to you.

And you go on till all the things you can think of are down on the page.

Write all you can write, supporting the main viewpoint with all the peripherals and tangents.

Then arrange a meeting. With the editor (which also is you).

Let the idea capturer in the room meet the king of scrutiny. It’s the recipe of engaging content.

A 550 word piece can be condensed into a 100 word article. No flab is to be left hanging on the meat. The artists in comic book publishing draw huge drafts, the size of a big poster. They are later compressed into lesser than an a4 size (one can think of the proportions of an average comic book from memory). This is done so the final product has more precision, with sharper lines.

In the same vein, rewriting the content and editing diligently will make your content shine.

Wring the cloth waterless, and hang it to dry.
