I am a music lover. Have always been one. My first decent speaker came with my Compaq pc- a JBL. I bombed the shit out of set-up. I discovered alternative rock on that device, which would formulate my musical taste/identity.
Later I dabbled with a variety of earphones, but never got another speaker, probably as I always lived with a roommate. At one point, I thought it was time to get one, and to get a good one.
I waited a long time before zeroing in on the right unit. I gravitated towards a JBL variant. That I loved music so much and wanted to get the perfect one led me to procrastinate over which particular one to get. When Saurabh told me that Marshall Speakers were designed to play rock music, he had my complete attention.
As I found out, the marshall speakers were pretty expensive. But having pondered over the purchase for about a couple years convinced me that I was ready to take the leap. I had invested ample time and thought to deserve this prize . I researched the product like a madman. I watched dozens of videos multiple times and read a host of reviews to reaffirm that this was the speaker I needed.
Finally I ordered the beauty on Amazon. I zeroed in on the Kilburn model, a big Bluetooth and a medium hall speaker, exactly suited to my needs. When the speaker arrived, I was amazed at its visual aesthetic, not that I was not expecting it. Still, I enjoyed the leather handle, analogue volume/bass/treble controls and a cool on/off operator.
The auditory experience was unprecedented. It was balanced and bright, brilliant both at high and low volumes. The fidelity at high volumes served my rock music experience impeccably. All the instruments used in a musical piece could be heard distinctly. The bass had a strong atmospheric influence. I felt as if the performances were being played live, and not recorded.
I played the speaker at low volume at night, when my roommate had slept. I found I could discern the sound at this mode too, and just as well. For sure I didn’t buy the speaker for this purpose, but I was not complaining.
It also adapted marvelously to other mediums like live football and TV/movie/ streaming. The voices of Peter drury, Jim Beglin and others deserved this grand execution.
I thought I needed good quality audio to complement this super gizmo. I zeroed in on Apple music. The details and quality of the music at that platform paired excellently with my marshall.
The machine became a centerpiece of my social life as well. We had the fabled marshall nights at trillium. I, saurabh, mukund and guests chatted, listened to music and ordered some food to be had with cocktails. Every Friday night after hours, we had terrific time.
I also took the 3.5 kgs load in a bag to Aundh, riding for about an hour in busy traffic. Vivek’s roommates jokingly told me not to come without the marshall. I spent majority of my weekends there, enjoying the food and drinks with great musical selections by Jishnu Bhaiya and others. We also went to goa carrying the music baksa, playing it on the road and in the hotel.
Now after a health setback, I moved to Kolkata via Patna, and Mumbai. It has been about 2 years since I got sick and the marshall engine is being used more than ever, probably even abused.
Here I use it for music, football, meditation music, study music and whatnot. The device has accompanied me through good and tough times. It’s one of the best things I ever purchased.
Heck, it’s not a thing, it’s my friend.
